~About Our Program~

MuncieP3 (MP3) is an outgrowth of an innovative teacher preparation program called, "Schools Within the Context of Community" (SCC), in which young teachers in training are immersed within a community in order to grasp the needs of those who reside in it. This immersive learning program moved the teachers who were working within the Whitely community to reach beyond the regular structure of education, and enact the provision of complementary learning that extends the school day and the school year of select children within Longfellow Elementary.

MP3 currently works collaboratively with Longfellow Elementary School in order to provide experiences which complement, rather than duplicate experiences during the school day. MP3 aligns its curriculum with the Muncie Community Schools' Curriculum Map and the Common Core Standards to provide after-school and summer hands-on experiential learning to increase student achievement.

Since the inception of MP3 in 2009, participating children have consistently outperformed their non-program peers in measures of literacy, math, school attendance, and social skills. MP3 has also experienced success in families and the community. Anecdotal data from Longfellow teachers indicated a consistent, increased level of school engagement on the part of participating families.

Guided by our commitment to early education within MP3, we hope to continually develop our collaborative partnership between our schools, families, and communities in order to maximize the promise and potential of every child.
